Growing up Catholic

“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Growing up Catholic, the term “born again” was rife with all sorts of taboo connotations to me. The way my elders seemed to dance around it when the topic came round, I associated it with being “weird” or “other”. When I asked why some cousins of mine wouldn’t make the sign of the cross like we did, they said, “born again yan,” and then stopped it at that, dropping their eyes as they said it. It was a complete mystery to me.

Now that I know (more than before, but less than I should), it’s a like big heavy door that used to be closed is now fully opened before me. Like a room that used to be dark, is now filled with light.

I am born again in Jesus, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
