And rivers in the desert

Isaiah 43:19 NKJV

Ripley’s Believe It or Not is an American franchise dealing with bizarre events and items that are so strange and unusual that they are banking on people wanting to see them at a cost. Their offerings are so outrageous that the position for unbelief is built right into their title.

This final phrase in the verse deals with one such outrageous claim. God is telling us that He will do something impossible. As impossible as fresh spring water bursting forth from dry sands.

How He can claim to do this is a moot question. He is the creator of the universe, and all the natural laws that govern it. His power extends from original conception all the way to its destruction, if He so chooses. He can make changes as He wills.

It’s the why that is more amazing here. In the vastness of the universe, we are each one of us a speck of dust floating on a giant rock. And yet, He would pay loving attention to every human being. His all seeing eye is upon us, His far reaching hands holding us, and His ever faithful heart loving us.

That’s two impossible things right there—water where there was none, and love for those who are not worthy.

Behold, I will do a new thing,
Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness
And rivers in the desert.

Believe it or not. He will.
