Acts 8

There is a heart preparation that comes with ministry that cannot be shortchanged or compromised or bought. No matter how much well prepared we think we are, or no matter how worthy, we will not be able to do the good work without the grace of God.

We could be using state of the art equipment and mapping our progress on the most up to date ISO certified process maps and requirements documents.  We could have meta-level auditors plotting our objectives and marking up our response times and productivity levels, and ticking off our priority lists every step of the way.  We could have meetings, and planning meeting, and pre-planning meetings, and committees assigned for each, with a foolproof Gantt chart scheduling all our tasks and activities, and progress reports documenting each action item every day, week, and quarter.  We could have all these and more, but if we don’t have God’s approval on our plans, if our documents are sealed with rubber stamps instead of that of the Holy Spirit, if we didn’t even pray before starting anything, then all these is all for naught.

Because sometimes it is tempting to over plan things.  Sometimes worldly preparations can mislead, or deceive us into thinking that everything is going to run smoothly.  Just like the people dazzled with the signs and wonders that Simon the Sorcerer displayed, we too might sometimes be so comfortable in the routines that are used to, the steps that we have been taking for so long, that we forget what is essential, we forget to call upon the Spirit to ensure that we are saturated it it every time, all the time, in everything that we do.  We should never forget that God is everything, and without Him, His blessing, His guidance, His anointing, and everything, without all those, our plans are nothing, and our preparations are nothing, and we are nothing.

Prayer
Lord you are everything that I need, and you are more than enough.  Etch this into my heart so that I will never forget the God whom I serve.  Help me to never forget that I am filled to be emptied again, over and over, that I may never stop calling out to you in everything that I do.
