Basil the Undaunted

I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy.

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭63:2-5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Coming back from a two week vacation, I saw that the potted basil plant we have at home was wilted and dry. It looked dead. The leaves were brown and thin, and some of them were crusty. What remained of the stems were all drooping and wilted. This was a plant that had lost all hope it seemed.

I was holding a water bottle to throw away, and I poured the remaining water into the pot. What could it hurt, I thought, already making plans to discard the entire pot when I had the time.

About an hour later, the plant that seemed all but dead came back to life in the most amazing way. It didn’t look like a plant in recovery — it looked like a healthy, thriving plant. As if nothing happened. As if it wasn’t a dried up, crispy mess just an hour ago.

Praise the Lord for He can make all things new! Praise Him for all His wonderful workings! There is nothing on earth that He cannot restore, nothing that He cannot revive to former, and even greater glory!

Now I name this plant Basil, for it deserves a name now. Basil the Undaunted, Basil the Restored, or something equally dramatic like that.

God is good 😊🙏🏼
