My surname is awesome sounding, but it’s not really that prestigious. I have often wondered what it would be like to have been born in an illustrious family. I would read luxury lifestyle magazines and imagine myself living in those houses, and riding in those yachts, or vacationing in those islands. I would fantasise about not having to do a single day’s work in my life, because everything would just be handed to me on a silver platter.
But those were just silly dreams that ended once I closed the magazines. Because I still live on planet earth, and I know what is real and what is not.
Fortunately, a part of that earthly reality is the spiritual presence of God. The good news, so to speak, is that our surnames don’t dictate the entirety of our privileges. Our identity in Christ, our fruitfulness in Him, also leads to a mind-blowing, game-changing fact of our inheritance in Him.
“For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.”
Hebrews 9:15
This eternal inheritance is a guaranteed promise. Christ died once and for all, and that means no do-overs necessary. Once you have His Name and answered His call, you’re already in the heavenly will, so to speak.
