You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.
Psalm 32:7
As humans, we spend a third of our lives in bed, because the prescribed number of hours sleep dictates that we spend eight of the 24 hours that we have every day lying down to restore our earthly bodies after the physical exertions of our daily lives.
Some people take great care in making their bedrooms into a sanctuary of peaceful retreat – the softest covers, the finest linens, the fluffiest pillows. There could even be scented candles, soothing sounds; every sense enveloped in the most relaxing elements possible to ensure the best quality of rest and relaxation.
There is nothing wrong with all these preparations. But the comfort we can experience for our physical bodies by way of these materials things is nothing compared to the goodness of God. It is nothing compared to the way that Jesus can be the source of our comfort, our rest, our peace.
