The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field.
Matthew 13:44 NLT
In this parable, Ps. Jeff likened the man who discovered the hidden pearl as someone who just stumbled upon the great treasure. He wasn’t looking out for it. He just stumbled on it, by accident.
And he asked the congregation who can relate to this, and I was like –
That’s me! I’m a “stumbler”! I raise my hand up high and soundly, but not proudly, declare that I just sort of fell into Christianity. I didn’t go about seeking for anything. I wasn’t looking for any deeper meaning in life, or anything like that.
When I think of all the things that came together for me to be sitting here, listening to this sermon, a part of this church, a member of God’s Kingdom – it overwhelms me.
I had to be available for all the services. The people that led me to Him, they had to have been available as well. Our schedules had to collide, our specific locations had to be finely attuned, in order for them to invite me.
Then, my stubborn will, my questioning mind, my wandering spirit, it all had to be suppressed in order for me to be weakened enough to acknowledge the truth of my great need of Jesus. My thick skull and rough skin and stony heart had to be penetrated by His Word.
That there is some cosmic universe impossible odds random number probability quotient thing for sure.
God is awesome.
